New Bedford Foss Marine Terminal
With a proven commitment to Safety and Quality, the purpose-built New Bedford Foss Marine Terminal will provide transport, installation, operations and maintenance services for the U.S. Offshore Wind Industry.
Past, Present and Future of Energy
In the late 1800’s Edison used the Cannon Street Power Plant site to commercialize electricity when he placed a dynamo in the Foundry Building. That endeavor was so successful that in 1905 they constructed a coal fired electrical power plant on the site. The facility expanded over the years and in 1956 the power plant was converted to #6 bunker and all the while supplied electricity to the city of New Bedford and its surrounding communities. Electricity was continually generated on site from 1905 until 1987 and the plant was eventually decommissioned in 1992.
We shared a vision that the site could be repurposed to something beneficial to all while still being tied to the electrical generation sector. Earlier this year, we accomplished a transition when we removed the last of 6 smoke stake pedestal and the surrounding steel superstructure. The Power Plant is now gone and so is the legacy of the past. On to the future.
We are proud of the significant team effort as we take another step in the much needed decarbonization effort. The terminal site is a symbol of the transition from the past carbon heavy fuel sources to renewable sources. It is truly symbolic and it will be a game changer for generations to come.
